Orkney Fields

Orkney Fields, soft pastel on Pastelmat, 18 x 24cm (7 x 10″), £50

Orkney Fields was painted while on holiday in, well, Orkney. The islands are truly amazing with so much to do and see. I explored 5000 year old stone circles and burial mounds and witnessed archeology as discoveries were being uncovered. A stunning place and well worth a visit.

I loved working on this, keeping away from detail, and using my pastels in different ways (flat, side on and with blending tools) to bring colour to the meadow. Allium Meadow is for sale on Etsy at £350.

I’m working on light and shade now and trying really, really hard not to put detail in.

I couldn’t resist putting some details in the trees, and had fun using the sides of my pastels.
