Purples and Blues

Bluebells, bluebells everywhere; so many to paint!

I wandered down to Pollok Park not far from me and strolled in the woods among these flowers. In the sun their scent is so wonderfully welcoming – like a more subtle hyacinth. A couple of years ago I took all my gear down and painted them en pleine air; this year I have taken loads of photos so I’ll be working on many more paintings in my studio.

I also came across a large patch of wild garlic in full bloom – I’ve not had a go at painting them.

I’ll let you know when I have paintings at the ready.

Cottage View, 42 x 26cm, mixed media

I enter competitions from time to time. Cottage View was entered into the The Artist OPEN COMPETITION 2018 and has been Highly Commended. I’m rather pleased.

Cottage View is for sale at my usual shops –  Etsy, Artfinder and artgallery.

In the Blue, Dancing and Swaying

In the Blue, Dancing and Swaying, 32 x 42cm, £300

I’m addicted to painting silhouetted trees at the moment and to limiting my palette. Blue still remains one of my favourite colours, but adding its contrasting colour of orange has opened a whole new range of possibilities for me. I am still playing with different materials, and always will but the Indian inks I have used in this painting are currently a strong favourite.

I have used a mix of Indian inks, gouache, watercolour and pastel pencil.

Another wee painting

tracy_butler_woodland_path
Woodland Path, 12.5 x 17.5cm (5 x 7″), watercolour and gouache on watercolour paper, £40

This wee painting was fun to do as it’s so far from the norm for me. I restricted my colour palette completely and I experimented with layer upon layer of the same colour. I’ll be doing this kind of thing again.

The original photo by the wonderful Nelleke whose work you can find on DeviantArt.

My work is for sale online Etsy, Artfinder and artgallery as usual, so head over there if you would like a wee original, prints or greetings cards.

Skye Stream

Skye Stream, watercolour and gouache on watercolour paper, 13 x 18cm (5 x 7″), £40

Now that the Easter holidays are over, I have been painting again, and Skye Stream is just the beginning. I loved experimenting with the contrasting colours of yellow, orange and purple and just letting them run together.

Since I last posted, my exhibition at Smithy Gallery finished and I had to say goodbye to some of my favourite paintings, many of which are going to the US which I am delighted about – below are some of the paintings that sold and are off to new homes…

Culzean Bluebells, mixed media, 41x26cm

After a bit of an absence, I’ve just popped this painting on my shops for sale. I will post a bit more about my latest activities over the next week or two.

You can find it on Etsy and Artfinder.

Spring Woodland

Spring Woodland, pastel on board

I have just managed to work out how to sell my paintings with variations on Etsy. It took me a while.

You can now buy Spring Woodland as either framed or unframed, depending on what you want. I can now head into the weekend with a real feeling of achievement – a database didn’t defeat me!

Exhibition Advert

Here is the advert for my 3 woman exhibition at Smithy Gallery. It was in today’s Glasgow Herald. I’ll be there; hope you can make it.
